Sep. 27, 2013 - Gotügo helps to make the Howard Community College Columbia Grand Prix a little more comfortable by donating their time and services to the event! The Classic Grand Prix was held at Marama Farm in Clarksville, MD on September 21, 2013. Along with the support of its sponsors, the Classic Grand Prix helped raise scholarship funds for the students at Howard Community College. Sep. 23, 2013 - Gotügo helps make the world a little cleaner along the Bread and Cheese Creek! Various restoration activities for the creek started back in 2009 and gotügo is proud to contribute to the efforts. These activities are focused on cleaning the historic creek also considered a severely polluted tributary in Maryland that feeds right into the Chesapeake Bay. Sep. 13, 2013 - Hospice Cup XXXII is coming to Annapolis, MD on September 21st with gotügo eager to support this important fundraiser! The Hospice Cup helps to raise funds for hospice programs throughout Maryland, Washington DC and Northern Virginia. The focus for 2013 funds is Pediatric Hospice care and support. Participating hospices use funds raised through Hospice Cup to continue to offer quality, end-of-life care to patients, their families and friends. This is one of many exciting events gotügo will contribute to in the year 2013.

Sep. 12, 2013 - The Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Department held their annual Bull Roast on September 6th with gotügo there to support, ready to roll!

Did you know...this fire department has been serving the communities of Riviera Beach since 1931? They have a total of 3 career persons per shift to staff the fire equipment and the ambulance...the rest are volunteers! This is one of many exciting events gotügo has supported in the year 2013. Don't call it a conspiracy. Perhaps just call it an oversight that a ADA porta potty does not always find its way to events where at least one is needed. The disabled compose such a small minority of the population that unless the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires ADA-accessible porta potties at functions, they often get overlooked in porta potty rental plans.

Large events with porta potty rental of 20 units or more might include one ADA rental, but smaller events frequently fail to consider that someone with a ADA may attend. This not only makes the experience less enjoyable for the disabled individual, but inconveniences others as well. If an event is so small it only needs one unit, then that unit should be a ADA porta potty just to ensure that everyone's sanitary needs are met. If the event needs only two porta potties --one for men and one for women-- they should both be suitable for the disabled.

Many specific requirements apply to portable sanitary facilities. For example, smokestack ventilation is always important because it takes any displeasing fragrance from the unit and moves it above the crowds. Insufficient ventilation around the unit can foul an event for everyone.

Disabled access means wheelchair accessibility, which means wider doors and level bases. It takes only a small obstruction to block a wheelchair. Units with access near the ground, rather than access on the ground, often work best. Near-ground access means the unit has a thicker floor. With near-ground access, event planners can prepare the ground to make the entrance level, or simply add a small ramp and threshold. (more…)
