Nicest Bathrooms Around the World

Some days, it’s hard to imagine an amazing public restroom. And yet, there are amazingly nice public restrooms throughout the world that will impress even the pickiest person. Let’s look at some of them.

Varsity Theater, Minneapolis, MN

This restroom is by far one of the most amazing. With its fanciful brick art that adds charm and whimsy, to the full view of the stage, to the shower-head faucets–and what bathroom wouldn’t be complete without a full service bar?–it’s truly amazing place to go when you’ve got to go.

Mumin Papa Café, Akashi, Japan

Most people find images of the ocean to be soothing. The people at Mumin Papa Café have taken this one step further and have surrounded their bathroom with an aquarium. That’s right. You get an underwater experience without the scuba gear, being surrounded on three sides by fish and seawater! Sorry, guys: ladies only, but it would be well worth the peek.

Tate Britain Gallery, London, Great Britain

Tate Gallery transparent toilet

Outside of Tate Britain Gallery in London is a most unusual restroom. Designed by Artist Monica Bonvicini, this restroom is made of one-way mirrors that allow you to see out but no one to see in. As her name for it suggests, you won’t miss anything while you’re doing your business. Of course, you may feel mighty self conscious with a whole world going by.

Daimaru Department Store, Tokyo, Japan

The people of Japan are already known for innovation, so it’s not surprising that they’re listed more than once when it comes to public restrooms. The Daimaru Department Store in Tokyo shows off just how innovative they can be. These bathrooms are so popular that they attract a following. With heated seats, a bidet that adjusts to various angles and provides the correct water temperature, and even recordings of ocean waves or running rivers that can help disguise embarrassing sounds.

Alexanderplatz, Berlin, Germany

Berlin renovated their public underground restrooms in 2007 and updated them to an amazing modern look. A black and white color scheme combined with stone, steel and glass, you’ll be impressed by the white tile and the sweeping city photographs that line the walls and give you the impression that you’re looking out at the city at night. And you thought you’d visit Germany for the beer.

Waldorf Astoria, New York

We’d be remiss if we didn’t mention the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York. The ladies’ room features some of the best amenities including private stalls that have not just toilets, but sinks and vanities. You can use Salvatore Ferragamo bath products, enjoy the false fireplace and the crystal chandeliers, and the Art Deco stairs in the lounge. There are also attendants available.

Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade, Portland, Oregon

It makes sense that the restroom in a game arcade would have a game theme, but the Ground Kontrol Classic Arcade in Portland takes the theme to new heights. From the Pacman and Ms. Pacman styled tile, to the sinks that glow and change colors, you’ll be delighted by the look of these bathrooms. You may be so busy enjoying the bathroom that you may forget to go out and play a few rounds.

And there you have it, some of the nicest bathrooms around the world! Sure they may not be as glamorous as our porta potty and portable restroom trailer units (kidding!), but they are definitely to be acknowledged!
